Our story

OzChild is one of the longest-serving charities for children, young people and families in Australia.

From the visionary actions of our forebears and our humble beginnings in the 1800s in Victoria, the OzChild family tree is one of many branches that have grown into the organisation we see today.

Staying true to one of our strategic goals of growing our reach, OzChild is now a national organisation, providing vital services to support and strengthen children, young people and families in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT.

The OzChild family tree will continue to grow and flourish as we strive to achieve our vision: that all children and young people are safe, respected, nurtured and able to reach their full potential.

We work hard every day to provide a better future for those in our care, with the belief that every child and young person deserves the chance to shine.

We are focused on providing support for children and young people in foster and kinship care and keeping families together where possible. This is done through the delivery of evidence-based programs and services aimed at strengthening and repairing relationships.

OzChild was one of the first non-government organisations to introduce evidence-based programs to Australia. As such, we have a proven record of working collaboratively with the government to allocate investment in innovative solutions to achieve better outcomes for vulnerable children and young people.

Today OzChild employs over 700 staff, carers and volunteers in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT, delivering 23 programs and services to over 10,000 children, young people and family members annually.
