A Voice to Parliament

Statement of Support

OzChild celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander tribes as the first sovereign Nations of the Australian continent and its adjacent islands, demonstrated by science to have existed for more than 60,000 years.

We are committed to continuously advocate to enable self-determination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, for better responses to complex challenges, including the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the child protection and justice systems.

The Voice to Parliament will be an independent, representative advisory body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It will provide a permanent means to advise the Australian Parliament and Government on the views of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on matters that affect them.

OzChild acknowledges that all members of our community are entitled to engage in robust and respectful expression of their views, and we provide a safe place for expressing differing opinions.  We commit to sharing information and accessible resources to help those we support, our staff, carers and families and other members of the community to understand what a Voice to Parliament means for the future of our country and to make an evidence-based decision in the referendum for constitutional amendment.

The OzChild Board and Executive affirm their support for the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

We accept the invitation to walk with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander delegates who put their signatures to the Statement in a movement of the Australian people for a better future.

Acknowledgement of Country

OzChild acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and work. We acknowledge their cultures are living ones, which relate to their ongoing connection to all things living and non-living on land, sea and sky.

We pay our respect to Elders past and present.

May the children of today lead us to a brighter tomorrow.
