JC Butler Award Recipient 2022

Lauren is the kinship carer for her younger half brother and has been caring for him for the past four years. Determined to see her brother remain with family rather than enter foster care, Lauren put her hand up to care for him, often going above and beyond what is expected of her, making sacrifices to be the very best carer she can be.

Putting her hand up to care for her younger brother, Lauren wanted a better life for him than what she had experienced. She was determined to see him grow up with family, finish school and experience the life all kids deserve.

Having been estranged for several years, Lauren put her life on hold and put her brother first to ensure he could have the best possible life, with all the opportunities that other kids have.

For the past four years she has turned her own life around, often sacrificing her own needs, dreams, and relationships.

Attending every meeting required of her, Lauren advocates constantly for her brother’s needs at school, with the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing and for his physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.

Seemingly unaware of the incredible role model she has become, Lauren is humble, selfless and 110% committed to demonstrating that no matter how bad past life experiences can be, there is always light in the future.

The level of her commitment means, she is willing to be there for her brother no matter what, for as long as he needs and at all costs.

Lauren demonstrates all the qualities displayed by JC Butler and more and is such a deserving recipient of the award.
