Welcome Booklet (in Video Form)
As part of the Children and Young People Participation and Empowerment project, a goal was set to translate the OzChild Welcome Booklet into a more child-friendly format. Research took place into the most appropriate medium to translate it to, and a video format was decided upon, given that children and young people currently gravitate towards digital media over any other.
The purpose of this video is not to replace the Welcome Booklet but to sit alongside it and be offered as an alternative to Children and Young People who are first placed into care with OzChild.
In the lead-up to the development of the video, several staff and young people were consulted and feedback was provided, which helped the team decide on certain elements, like tone, key pieces of information and how the key messages could be conveyed within the video.
The video is now available on the Knowledge Hub, and accessible to children and young people via the ‘My Journey’ app and for carers via the ‘Village App’. Children and young people can choose to view the entire video at once or view it as several shorter videos split up by subject.
