Family/Mentor Support Program

Providing practical and emotional support to children, young people and families in need.

Statement on OzChild’s Volunteer Programs in Response to COVID-19

There is no doubt the world as we knew it has changed in the face of COVID-19. But rest assured OzChild’s Volunteer Programs are still providing support to vulnerable families, children and young people.

The Positive Horizons Volunteer Program supporting families with children under 12 years of age is still supporting those in the Cardinia Shire and the Mornington Peninsula Volunteer Program is still available to provide emotional support to families with children under the age of 18 within the Mornington Peninsula Shire.

We are extremely grateful to have such incredibly committed and passionate volunteers who are dedicated to ensuring the much-needed support and mentoring can continue even when faced with the circumstances we find ourselves in.

There is no doubt this service, and many others offered by OzChild, will be in greater demand in the coming weeks and months as families are faced with additional financial and emotional hardships brought about by this pandemic.

It is important to note we are continuing to take expressions of interest from people who are wanting to volunteer and will provide interviews via Skype or alternative teleconferencing platforms to ensure the demand for mentors is met.

If you’d like to become a volunteer with our Family/Mentor Support Program you can apply here.

Who are we supporting with the Family/Mentor Support Program?

Keeping kids safe, out of harm’s way and nurtured to reach their full potential underpins the support programs we offer to vulnerable children, young people and their families. OzChild’s Family/Mentor Support programs are providing the right support at the right time for families facing vulnerable times.

Children, young people and families are encouraged to participate in the program which is always in need of volunteer mentors to deliver the support.

The Family/Mentor Support Program supports children, young people and their families through the delivery of the Positive Horizons Volunteer Program and the Mornington Peninsula Volunteer Program. Both programs provide practical and emotional support with the help of volunteers.

Positive Horizons Volunteer Program – Cardinia Shire

  • Provides emotional support to families with children under 12 years
  • Supports children who are considered vulnerable or at-risk of family violence, mental health issues or social isolation.

Mornington Peninsula Volunteer Program – Mornington Peninsula Shire

  • Provides emotional support to families with children under 18 years
  • Supports children who are considered vulnerable or at-risk of family violence, mental health issues or social isolation.

How are services delivered?

The Positive Horizons Volunteer Program and the Mornington Peninsula Volunteer Program are proudly funded by Communities for Children Plus and the Mornington Peninsula Shire respectively.

How you can help!

By joining our Family/Mentor Support program as a volunteer, you will be providing support to those that need it most. As a volunteer, you can decide how to spend your time, whether it’s helping kids with school work, playing sport or having a go at music or painting – it’s up to you!

Providing emotional support, mentoring guidance and role modelling, as well as helping out with everyday household tasks, are some other ways that you can support families facing vulnerable times.
