Our work
Shine Assist
Shine Assist connects families and schools with medical practitioners to address the psychological and emotional wellbeing of primary and secondary students across Victoria.
Shine Assist supports students who are experiencing difficulties such as bullying, depression, attention deficit disorder or bereavement.
The program is accessed by a referral from a general practitioner, paediatrician or psychiatrist. Students may be eligible for up to 10 individual sessions and 10 group sessions with a Shine Assist psychological counsellor.
There is no gap fee charged for Shine Assist counselling, so there’s no cost to the student, their families or the school.
How Shine Assist works
Students who are identified as being at risk and who may benefit from counselling are referred to the program by a GP with the approval of their parents/foster carers.
Once a school has completed the paperwork for four or more students, OzChild can provide a psychologist or mental health social worker to support the students.
