Restoring Families

This approach brings together our experience in the delivery of evidence-based programs (FFT-CW, MST-CAN and SafeCare) and evidence informed practice (Practice Elements).

Restoring Families is OzChild’s intensive family support program, working alongside families to build on strengths, strengthen relationships and create the conditions for children to grow up safely within their families wherever possible. When children are living away from home, the program also supports families to create the foundations for safe reunification when the time is right.

Through trusted relationships and evidence-informed practice, our skilled practitioners work in partnership with families to build confidence, strengthen parenting, and support lasting safety and stability. Together, families identify what is working well, what matters most to them, and the practical steps that can help children remain connected to their family, culture and community.

As part of the Victorian Government’s reformed Family Services system, Restoring Families provides intensive, tailored support that helps families navigate periods of change and build on the strengths that support children and young people to thrive.

Referrals to the program are received via Child Protection navigators and the Restoring Families coordinator.

SafeCare

SafeCare is an evidence-based parenting program for families with children aged 0-5. It provides practical, in-home support to strengthen parenting skills, build confidence and create safe, nurturing environments for children, including families who are involved with child protection services or at increased risk of child neglect or physical harm. This service is available in the Bayside Peninsula Area, Southern Melbourne Area, Brimbank Melbourne Area, Western Melbourne Area, and Goulburn region.

FFT-CW

Functional Family Therapy – Child Welfare (FFT-CW) is an evidence-based program that works alongside children, young people and their parents, carers or kin to strengthen relationships, improve communication and build the skills and confidence to navigate challenges together. This service is available in the Bayside Peninsula Area, Southern Melbourne Area, Brimbank Melbourne Area, Western Melbourne Area, and Goulburn region.

MST-CAN

Multisystemic Therapy for Child Abuse and Neglect (MST-CAN) is an intensive, evidence-based, in-home program that partners with families to strengthen relationships, build parenting confidence and create safe, stable home environments where children can thrive. This service is available in the Goulburn area, North East Victoria.
