Professional Care

Professional Care is an evidence-informed approach, that supports children and young people with high and complex needs.

Professional Care is a structured and formalised model of care where individuals take on a caring role as their primary occupation. This model of care is designed to address challenges in the current foster care system – in particular the declining number of volunteer foster carers and the increasing complexity of needs among children and young people in care.

This model provides carers with additional resources and supports to deliver intensive, specialised, and individualised care to children and young people with complex and/or high needs, who may otherwise be placed in residential or high-cost alternative care settings.

Professional Care is not a replacement for Foster Care, but rather a complementary model to ensure that children with complex needs receive intensive and therapeutic care in a home-based environment.

Is this an evidence based program?

OzChild’s Professional Care Model is an evidence-informed approach, built on research and best practices from successful models both in Australia and internationally. The program is designed with a strong focus on outcomes measurement. We are committed to evaluating its effectiveness against 13 long-term outcomes, aligned with child safety and permanency standards. Through ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement, we aim to build a robust evidence base for the model over time.
