A dedicated and talented sportsman, Ryan Harrison has played Rugby League since the age of five and has proved himself as a force to be reckoned with. A versatile player who can play in several positions, Ryan excels in his favourite position at full-back.
In the last two years Ryan has played in representative squad Group 3 as well as being selected as a representative from his school. He was also selected in the Nations of Origin squad which promotes reconciliation and closing the gap.
With the assistance of the Chance to Shine Scholarship, Ryan and his family were able to travel to all of his games and training sessions for Nations of Origin and Group 3. It has also allowed Ryan to be able to get the equipment he needs such as boots, a mouthguard, and head gear. Coming from a single income family, the travelling and equipment costs involved with playing rugby have become a lot easier to manage with the assistance of the scholarship.
Being a part of these amazing teams and playing alongside elite players and being coached by such dedicated and respectful coaches has been an excellent self-esteem booster for Ryan.
As the end of the season approaches, Ryan will be playing semi-final football with his club and hopes to go onto the Grand Final as well as playing in the country championships with Group 3 in September. He is also trialing for a variety of Under 16 NRL Harold Matthews Squads which will train in the off season. Ryan is also a keen touch football player and looks forward to being successful in the local touch representative squad which will participate in the State Cup early next year.
With hard work, dedication and a great attitude Ryan is well on his way to achieving his dreams.
