OzChild Strengthens its Commitment to Supporting Children, Young People and Families in the ACT

For over seven years, OzChild has been proud to support children, young people and families in the ACT through our partnership in the ACT Together consortium.  Now, as we begin a new chapter as a standalone foster care agency in the region, we’re excited to continue supporting foster carers in their vital work of providing safe, loving homes for vulnerable children.

Our presence in the ACT extends far beyond foster care. Since 2016, OzChild has been delivering evidence-based, early intervention programs aimed at keeping families together and helping young people thrive.

Through our partnership with Gugan Gulwan Youth Aboriginal Corporation, we deliver Functional Family Therapy – Child Welfare (FFT-CW), a program that works intensively with families to reduce risks and build stronger relationships. Designed to prevent children and young people from entering or re-entering care, FFT-CW empowers parents and caregivers to make positive, lasting changes that support the whole family’s wellbeing.

Similarly, in partnership with Yerrabi Yurwang Child and Family Aboriginal Corporation, we deliver Functional Family Therapy – Youth Justice (FFT-YJ). This program supports young people at risk of, or involved in, the justice system. Using a strengths-based approach, FFT-YJ helps families address underlying issues and develop skills that reduce the likelihood of future offending — ultimately supporting safer communities and brighter futures.

These programs reflect our long-standing commitment to the ACT community. We’re not new here — we’ve been working side by side with families, community organisations and carers for nearly a decade to create better outcomes for children and young people.

To the incredible foster carers we welcome from the nation’s captial – we are delighted to have you as part of the OzChild Village.   Your dedication and resilience make a lasting difference in the lives of the children and young people you care for, and we are honoured to support you as you continue that journey.

While our foster care services may be evolving in the ACT, our vision remains unchanged. We look forward to continuing to grow our impact in the region, working in partnership with community to create brighter futures for those who need it most.
