Aged 8 and 10 Layla* and Kayla* love to dance and sing. Both girls like to go swimming and shopping and eating McDonalds for a treat and look forward to seeing their younger brother and mother when they can.

10-year-old Kayla sees a tutor on Saturdays and attends music lessons at school and dance and swimming lessons outside school hours. While 8-year-old Layla is also into drama, enjoys listening to pop music and one day wants to be famous!

Layla and Kayla are just like other kids their age, the only difference is they currently have no permanent place to call home. Both girls are living in temporary accommodation while they wait for their forever home.

“Layla would thrive in a home where she feels like she belongs, with a carer who is patient and able to put her needs first. Layla also needs someone who can help her to come out of her shell, to build her social and developmental skills”

Karlie
OzChild Carer Support & Intake Team Leader

“And Kayla’s needs are much the same, she just wants to be loved by someone who is caring and warm, someone who makes her, and her younger sister feel safe, feel loved and understands their needs,” adds Karlie.

Most importantly is the need for Layla and Kayla to remain together, cared for in the same house, until they reach 18.

A word from 10-year old Kayla

“I really want to live with someone who can help me with my reading and math and will come with me to doctors’ appointments. And love my sister as much as I do.”

Kayla thrives on routine and needs a carer who has the time and patience to help improve her literacy and numeracy and build her confidence.

8-year-old Layla loves going on excursions and wants to develop her dancing and music skills but needs the support of a patient carer to help her build strong social connections, and her confidence in her learning ability.

Both girls want to continue to see their mother and younger brother, with contact visits fully supervised and organised by child protection.

OzChild’s foster care team want you to know “you won’t be on your own there are other people who are here to help carry the load, with supports put in place to ensure you can give these girls the childhood they deserve, and the one they both long for.”
