Become a long-term carer
Could you provide a stable, caring home for a child in need?

Long-term carers are vital in providing the stability and permanency so many children need and crave. Committing to care long-term for a child or young person means they don’t have to move from one family to another anymore – it means they can finally unpack their bag and focus on being a child, without the worry of where they might end up next.
As a long-term foster carer, you will welcome a child aged 7 to 11 who urgently needs a safe and loving environment to grow. By providing stability and care, you will have a lasting impact on their life, supporting them until they reach the age of 18.
To help you focus on providing a nurturing environment, you’ll receive a generous annual, tax-free allowance starting from $14,000. This support covers essentials like food, bills, and clothing so you can concentrate on what truly matters—making a difference in a young person’s life.
The child you will be caring for will have just graduated from OzChild’s Queensland Treatment Foster Care Oregon (TFCO) program also known as specialised foster care. This program is an internationally proven behaviour change program that provides intensive support for children with trauma backgrounds over a 9-12 month period. This means we have spent nine months teaching these kids the life skills they need in order to function at school, at home and in the community, while addressing a lot of the challenging behaviours they have developed living away from home.
The aim of the TFCO program is reuniting children with their biological family (including next of kin) or placing them with lower intensity long-term foster carers (yes, that would be you).
