Foster Care Week 2024
Foster Care Week is celebrated in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT from 8-14 September.
Foster Care Week 2024 is here! This week we celebrate the incredible contributions of OzChild carers across Victoria, New South Wales, and in the ACT.
This year’s Foster Care Association of Victoria (FCAV) theme is ‘Today’s Carers, Tomorrow’s Future‘, highlighting the invaluable role foster carers play in setting the foundation for positive futures for children and young people in care.
‘Today’s Carers, Tomorrow’s Future’ is a theme that really signifies the enormity of the role of a volunteer carer. All carers play such a critical role in setting the foundation for positive futures for children and young people in care. While we appreciate and give thanks to carers every day, special weeks like this provide us with a wonderful opportunity to highlight the incredibly important role carers play in our communities and for children and young people.
– Dr Lisa J. Griffiths, Chief Executive Officer.
This week, we want to recognise the unique contributions of the OzChild carer community as a whole – general foster carers, specialised carers, Lead Tenant Volunteer Mentors and those who provide care on a short-term basis, giving other carers a break. With this notion we wanted to celebrate the collective efforts of all carers with the theme “Building Brighter Futures Together”, a belief that reflects our commitment to working hand-in-hand with carers to create a better tomorrow for the children and young people in their care.
At OzChild, we are excited to celebrate the incredible individuals and families who open their hearts and homes to children in need.
Foster Care Week is a time to shine a light on the love, dedication and resilience that foster carers demonstrate day in and day out It is a role that demands patience, compassion and an unwavering commitment.
We see firsthand the incredible difference foster care can make. From helping children to heal from past traumas to supporting them as they develop confidence and new skills, foster carers are at the heart of these transformative experiences.
So this Foster Care Week, we say thank you!

Become a foster carer
Every 45 minutes a child enters the out-of-home care system in Australia. The sad reality is the number of children and young people needing care is not slowing down and the number of people signing up to become carers is falling short. Could you care?
