Celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day 2024

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day is a special day held annually on August 4, dedicated to celebrating First Nation children. The theme for Children’s Day 2024, “Strong in Culture, Stronger Together,” elevates the intention of this celebration, focusing on the strength children gain from their connection to culture and community.

This year, we stand with First Nations children, proud of their culture, stories, kin and community; elements that make children special, resilient and the bright leaders of our future.

The theme underscores the importance of cultural identity and connection for the wellbeing and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. By celebrating their rich heritage, we help children understand and appreciate where they come from, fostering a strong sense of self and belonging.

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day is a day to celebrate the youngest members of the world’s oldest continuing cultures. It is a day for all Australians to show support and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, their families and communities. A connection to culture helps children understand their place in the world and fosters a sense of belonging and self-worth. It is through cultural practices, stories and traditions that children learn valuable life lessons and develop a strong sense of pride in their heritage.

At OzChild, we are dedicated to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Our programs and services are designed to reinforce cultural connections and provide the support children need to grow into strong, confident adults, proud of their heritage.
