Our staff in the latest culture survey described OzChild as being resourceful, innovative, passionate and adaptive. But how does that relate to working at OzChild?

A job that is rewarding

OzChild is committed to providing quality service to our clients by ensuring our staff are well supported in their work. This is achieved by ensuring staff are clear about successful outcomes of their work, that they are recognised for their achievements and that realistic expectations are set in regards to work and case loads. In addition a highly skilled work-force will enhance the service delivery to our clients.

A supportive workplace

Ozchild is committed to ensuring that employees, when required, have supervision and peer support.

Professional development opportunities

OzChild is committed to the continual professional development of its staff.  Internal and external training are provided to all staff to help develop their level of expertise in their own individual areas of expertise.  OzChild believes that this continual investment in staff helps the organisation to provide the best possible service to its clients.

A workplace where your ideas are valued

Staff are encouraged to share ideas at team meetings or with their supervisors, which will improve the overall service to our clients.

A competitive benefits package

Due to OzChild's tax status as a Public Benevolent Institution (PBI), we are able to offer salary packaging to most staff members.  If you participate in OzChild's salary packaging program, you can save on the amount of tax you pay, which leaves more money in your pocket each fortnight!

So how does it work?  In a nutshell, you agree to divert a portion of your fortnightly salary to pay off your mortgage, rent, other loans and credit card expenses.  (This includes, but is not limited to, payment of general insurance, car registration, car insurance, petrol, school fees, health insurance, rates, telephone, utilities, groceries and clothing.)

Eligible employees are able to sacrifice $16,050 of gross salary, pay no tax on this amount, and have OzChild pay personal benefits up to this amount.  All tax savings are passed onto the employee.  Employees don't need to package the full $16,050 - lesser amounts may be suitable.

When an employment arrangement includes private uses of an OzChild vehicle, the taxable value of the vehicle is included within the $16,050 allowance.

Examples of salary packaging:

On an annual salary of $35,000 (includes all penalty allowances)
packaging the full $16,050 results in an after tax benefit of approximately $2,735 per year, or $105 per fortnight (equivalent to a pay rise of $4,107 per annum).

On an annual salary of $65,000 (includes all penalty allowances)
packaging the full $16,050 results in an after tax benefit of approx $4,815 per year, or $185 per fortnight (equivalent to a pay rise of $7,113 per annum).

The above figures include the annual salary packaging fee of approximately $228 (also tax deductible).

Flexible working arrangements

OzChild maintains a flexible approach to employee working hours.  Many of our employees work part time hours and have the option to work from home occasionally.  OzChild also offers additional ex gratia days at Easter and Christmas and allows extra hours worked to be taken as time in lieu.

Balancing work and family

As an organisation that supports families in the community, OzChild also recognises the need to support members of families who are employed here.   In recognition of this OzChild offers six weeks paid maternity leave and two weeks paid paternity leave to eligible parents.  Employees are also entitled to carer's leave, bereavement leave and sick leave.

Manageable workloads and expectations

In the best interests of client needs and staff satisfaction, OzChild's planning, feedback and review policy aims to clarify job expectations and monitor work/case progress whilst acknowledging worker strengths.  The organisation endeavours to provide employees with identified skills and support.
