Children Australia is a quarterly journal which aims to provide an opportunity for professional staff, academics and others concerned with children, youth and families, to report on research and practice in Australia and beyond. The journal is highly relevant to a wide readership, including academics, administrators, teachers, students, mental health professionals, and all professionals working in related human services fields. In encouraging debate and discussion about how to achieve well-being for children, young people and their families, Children Australia contributes to maintaining the voice of the sector with a view to improving policy, practice and program development. A well-respected and nationally recognised journal for over thirty years, Children Australia is included on the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science & Training (DEST) Register of Refereed Journals. All states and territories in Australia and the indigenous community are represented on its national editorial board, together with a representative from New Zealand. Members offer both academic and practice-based perspectives. The journal is produced through the cooperative effort of the Editor, Dr Jennifer Lehmann of La Trobe University, Bendigo, Victoria, and the editorial/production team located at OzChild: Children Australia Inc. History of the Children Australia journalThe Journal was first established in 1976 with the title Australian Child and Family Welfare, and it was published as the quarterly journal of the Child and Family Welfare Council of Australia. This organisation became the Children's Bureau of Australia in 1979, then the National Children's Bureau of Australia (NCBA) in 1990, at which time the journal changed its title to Children Australia. In July 1993, NCBA joined with Family Action and Family Focus to form OzChild: Children Australia Inc. Read more about the history of the Children Australia journal.
